Whew, it’s been quite the start to the year for me. So I thought I’d do a quick Installer Newsletter style post of what’s going on.
The big news is that I’ve moved away from Brisbane, a city I’ve called home since 2010. I’m only a few hours up the highway in a small coastal city called Hervey Bay. It’s a move brought on by my partner’s need to be closer to her parents, but I like it here a lot and it’s a nice change of pace and scenery.
Obviously a move like this takes a fair bit of attention, so things have been quiet on the speaking and writing front. But here’s a couple of things I’ve been digging.
Watching
Like a whole lot of people I know, I re-watched Andor Season 1 in preparation for the Season 2 launch. It’s still one of the best things done in the whole franchise. Season 2 is now off to a great start, and I can’t wait to re-watch Rouge One when it’s done.
On the sillier end of the TV spectrum, Reacher Season 3 came out and we gobbled that up quickly. It was ridiculous, but I love it. “Saddle up, we’re about to do a whole lot of cowboy shit” from Season 2 is one of my favourite lines from a TV show ever. I have a sticker of it on my laptop.

I also finally watched Ted Lasso. My partner and I spent a few months apart for the first part of the year, so things on Apple TV+ were great to watch over SharePlay. I get the Ted Lasso hype now, it’s an incredible show. Not what I was expecting at all.
Listening
I spent a many hours in the car with my daughter in the first part of the year getting her ready for a driving test. So I probably listened to more Taylor Swift than anything else so far in 2025. (If you’re wondering, Folklore is my fave).
I’ve also seen a few great live shows, Lawrence came to Brisbane, as did Lake Street Dive. I love that some of these acts are making their way here.
A few good new albums out by artists I like too. Bootsy Collins, Jon Cleary, May Erlewine, and Couch have all been on repeat here.
Tech toys
With a new (single story) house we looked at robot vacuum cleaners, and ended up with a Roborock Qrevo Edge. So far this is a great little life upgrade. I’ve also been taking a lot of photos diving into the settings of my Fujifilm X-S20. I am no photographer, but learning.
Work
I’ve been quietly doing a couple of software development projects. I had to spin up a new project using Vue and found all the cheese has been moved from the last app I built using Vue 2, Nuxt, and Chakra UI. With the move to Vue 3 a whole lot of tools I knew have been abandoned or unfinished. So I’m working with Vue 3, Nuxt, Shadcn, and a Dotnet 9 API backend. I’m having to work around a lot of stuff but it’s getting to the productive point now.
So that’s my little update, I might do it again next month!
